Getting to know your benefits……
Often times we receive calls to the office to check if a person’s insurance will cover Chiropractic services. In a perfect world, we would access their insurance payor site, check their benefits and that would provide all the information we needed. And it would be correct!! But the insurance world isn’t a perfect world. More often than not, the insurance information provided online or even through numerous phone calls, is either not correct or unclear. We could be quoted a benefit of a $30 copay for example, but when the claim is processed and we receive the statement of the claim (EOB) 30 days later, it processed with a deductible, or that a referral was needed. Unfortunately, we have no way of attaining information outside of what we are provided by the insurance company.
ALWAYS KNOW YOUR INSURANCE COVERAGE AND CHECK IT YOURSELF ALSO!
For those with insurance through work, check your benefits book, contact your HR department or contact your insurance direct to determine coverage. Ultimately, your benefits are a contract between you and your insurance company for benefit COVERAGE. Our only contract with your insurance company is in regards to accepting their fee schedule, and collecting your copay and/or deductible, but not in regards to benefit COVERAGE in any way. SO ALWAYS KNOW YOUR COVERAGE AND BENEFITS. IF A CLAIM SHOULD PROCESS DIFFERENTLY THAN YOU EXPECTED, ALWAYS CALL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY AND REQUEST THAT THEY REPROCESS IT CORRECTLY ACCORDING TO THE BENEFITS YOU WERE QUOTED.
